I’m going to talk about something I saw on Bleacher Report that bothered me. There was an article called “How the Raiders became the least talented team in the NFL.” Instinctively I read it and judging from my own thoughts, and the responses to the article from some of the readers, it became apparent that the writer of that article didn’t know that “the least talented team” is no longer that thanks to Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie’s diligent efforts. That article is obsolete. Say the Raiders were like a chicken that one buys at the store. What do you do to a chicken once you cook it? Remove the fat and throw the fat in the garbage. Well, for McKenzie the fat was out-of-whack contracts. He tossed the fat, took all the hits against the salary cap this year, and next offseason he should be able to land some big name players with all of that dead money off the salary cap. He’ll have enough cap space to do it, in other words.
As far as the least talented team in the NFL goes, I’d have to give the Cleveland Browns that dubious distinction. There is not one player on the Browns anyone from the Mountain Time Zone westward would likely recognize due to their lack of star power. I expect that to change next season when they draft Jadaveon Clowney with the first overall pick in next year’s draft. I just hope the Browns’ current owner is still running the team by then, considering his potential indictment in the Pilot Flying J case.
Reporters, please do your jobs throughly before making any conclusions.
